War Against Poverty Ignorance and Diseases in South Sudan (WAPID South Sudan) is a Women-led grassroot, community-based, locally led, national humanitarian and development NGO, fully registered with South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in 2023, with Registration certificate number 4968.
As a locally led and driven Organization, WAPID South Sudan is committed to dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate poverty, injustices, inequalities, illiteracy, ignorance, and diseases through inclusive, rights-based programming by placing the most vulnerable populations – especially women, children, and youth at the center of its transformative interventions.
Guided by the philosophy of Empowering Minds, Healing Lives, and Building Futures, WAPID South Sudan designs and implements inclusive, locally owned solutions that foster resilience, equity, and sustainable development.
We believe that sustainable development must be locally led and community owned. By leveraging local knowledge, leadership, and participation, the organization ensures that its programs are culturally relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
Our approach emphasizes community participation, accountability, and long-term impact in all its programming, ensuring that interventions not only address immediate needs but also build lasting resilience.
Vision
A world where everyone has the opportunity and the rights to live a life filled with learning, health, and economic security.
Mission
To combat systemic poverty, extreme inequalities, illiteracy, and marginalization by supporting community-led development initiatives that drive sustainable change. We do this by enhancing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, in partnership with stakeholders across sectors, to empower communities to lead healthy lives and build resilient, self-sufficient futures.
Our Story
WAPID South Sudan was founded by unaccompanied minors and orphans who fled conflict in 1999 and lived in Northern Uganda as refugees. Experiencing poverty, illness, insecurities and exclusion firsthand inspired them to return to South Sudan to fight for a future where communities can thrive through education, health, and empowerment. The founders believe that true community transformation can only be achieved when people are aware of the critical issues around them; when they are healthy and armed with knowledge and skills to fight three greatest enemies of development (Poverty, Ignorance/illiteracy and Diseases). WAPID South Sudan therefore believes that the real transformation starts with the changing of the mindset.
