SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS

Although efforts are being made to advance SRHR by ensuring access to essential healthcare services, including contraception, maternal health care, STI prevention and treatment, and care for reproductive cancers (Juba Eco, 2024), these services are not readily accessible and available to a larger sections of youth population, especially in rural areas of South Sudan. Besides, information and resources and availability, accessibility, acceptability and Quality of SRHR services are a great challenge in Chukudum, South Sudan. Existing social norms, values and ideologies are one of the big challenges to SRHR achievement. Additionally, existing SRHR programs and interventions fail to reach the most vulnerable groups of adolescents from ultra-poor families, in some contexts, adolescents from rural and hard to reach areas, intellectually disabled – all these groups’ sexuality remains largely invisible.
WAPID South Sudan is currently mobilizing resources to implement SRHR Project in order to meet the SRHR needs of adolescents and young adults in Chukudum, Budi County. Adolescents and youth friendly SRHR services and information services are essential conditions to reduce teenage pregnancies, and related maternal mortality and also prevent risky sexual behavior of adolescents, correct information about SRHR through adolescents clubs, youth clubs, child marriages, sexual orientation, equal opportunities, menstrual hygiene management, use of social media for communication; helpdesk to support youth and adolescents; SRHR Education; Voluntary Counselling and Testing sessions; Drama; sport activities theatre platforms; condom distributions; awareness raising campaigns; and community engagement events.
This Project is entitled Health Opportunities for Progress and Equality (HOPE). The ultimate goal of this project is to improve SRHS outcomes in Chukudum, Budi County through increased access to comprehensive SRHR services; increased individual awareness of SRHR as human rights; and transformed cultural and social norms and communities to exhibit positive attitudes towards SRHR services, resources and information.
