In the aftermath of conflict or post conflict era such as in South Sudan, sports emerge as a vital tool in promoting peace, social cohesion and crime prevention. The post conflict landscape in South Sudan has left many youth vulnerable to idleness, unemployment, and substance abuse, rendering them susceptible to recruitment by armed groups. This precarious situations underscores the continued need for innovative strategies to engage youth in constructive activities, such as sport for peace.

It was realized that sports offer a unique solution to challenge idleness and behaviors that leads to conflict and armed confrontation between groups and communities. By engaging youth in sports, the project can effectively demobilize them from the allure of armed groups and criminal activities. Sports have the power to distract youth from violent tendencies, channeling their energy into positive pursuits. It was also accepted that sports foster teamwork, disciple, and communication skills, which are all essential for building strong and cohesive communities.

The participants also commented that by providing youth with a platform for physical activity, social interaction, and healthy competition, sports help to reduce the likelihood of youth engaging in criminal behaviors. This was seen as a tool that aid in preventing crimes, while furthermore promoting social cohesion and peaceful co-existence between and among different communities. Sports act connectors, rather than disconnectors.
